Hello, and welcome to Execulink Telecom’s first installment of our “Most Viewed YouTube videos of the Month” series! At the end of each month, we’ll give you a run-down of the most popular online videos so that you can hold informed conversations with your hip coworkers and family members without looking like you’re behind the times. Okay, its purpose is mostly to entertain, but keeping up-to-date in the realms of media and pop culture is certainly a beneficial side effect. What I’ve learned this month is that people are really into Star Wars and Channing Tatum dressing up in women’s clothing. What that says about our society, I cannot tell you. Read on to check out the best videos that January 2016 had to offer!

Adele Carpool Karaoke
58,369,387 views

Oh my goodness, Adele. This woman is so talented. It seems like she isn’t even trying when she sings, but the sound that comes out is perfection. And while her driver friend (talk show host James Corden) isn’t quite as vocally gifted, he gives it his all and kills it anyways. The two have a hilarious chemistry, so if you have 15 minutes to alternate between being blown away by fantastic vocals and laughing out loud at their comical banter, I would HIGHLY recommend watching this video if you haven’t already. After all, it was the most watched YouTube video of the month for a reason.

Taylor Swift - Out Of The Woods
42,772,529 views

I don’t think this one needs too much of an explanation. This is Taylor Swift we’re talking about; the fact that her music video has a ton of views should come as no surprise. But it is pretty epic, and I read an interview with the director saying that she did all of the stunts herself – yes, that means she was actually running through the snow in a tiny blue dress and army-crawling through mud for the sake of her art. Which I’d say is pretty admirable, whether you’re a fan or not.

Channing Tatum's “Who Run the World (Girls)” | Lip Sync Battle
22,699,564 views

I never thought I’d live to see the day when Channing Tatum would dress up as Beyoncé and perform an earth-shattering dance routine to “Run the World (Girls)”. But alas, I have, and I can’t say I have any regrets. We’re talking full hair and makeup here, and I really don’t want to give anything else away, so please just click play (the performance starts at 1:54) and prepare to never look at Channing the same way again.

Channing Tatum Performs Frozen's "Let It Go" | Lip Sync Battle
15,866,084 views

That’s right, Channing Tatum and his lip-syncing skills get two spots in a row! I thought I had clicked on the wrong link after noticing that this video was only 35 seconds long, but there was no mistake. The video is only a preview/ad for the “Lip Sync Battle” show on Spike TV, and it still had over 15 million views! And to my surprise, the full-length video of his Frozen performance has just over 2 million views. Maybe people’s interest fizzled out before the episode aired, or seeing a few seconds of Channing Tatum in an Elsa costume was enough for the majority of viewers. Either way, I’d recommend the full-length version, because who has more important things to do, right?

What Will Happen If You Mix Coke and Bleach?

I need to start off by saying that I have no idea how this video got so high up on the list, other than the fact that it’s one of the more cringeworthy videos I’ve watched lately. It’s literally just a guy with a very heavy Russian accent mixing Coca-Cola and bleach and being pretty excited about the results. This video is definitive proof that humans will never stop watching (or making) these “what will happen if?” experiments, but if they provide this much entertainment, I can’t say that’s a bad thing.

Star Wars Undercover Boss: Starkiller Base
12,006,021 views

This video has a fantastic concept. It combines the show Undercover Boss with the newest Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, showing Kylo Ren going undercover as an average Joe to find out what his employees think of his leadership. It had me laughing out loud pretty much the entire time, so I’d say it’s a must-watch if you’ve seen both The Force Awakens and Undercover Boss. Plus, I’m a huge fan of Adam Driver, so that just added to the video’s awesomeness.

Neighbors 2 - Official Trailer (HD)

Warning: Contains mature themes.

I guess people must have really liked the first Neighbors movie with Zac Efron and Seth Rogan, because the trailer for the second movie made it onto this list! The second movie seems to have the exact same premise as the first, except this time a sorority moves in next door to Seth Rogan and Rose Byrne, and they need Zac Efron’s help to get the situation under control. Personally, I think viewers were probably disappointed when they realized the trailer contained a lot more stereotypical sorority sisters than shots of Zac Efron. Or was that just me?

#Pokemon20: Pokémon Super Bowl Commercial
7,239,438 views

Make sure you have your permission slip signed because we’re going on a FEELS TRIP! If you grew up playing Pokémon like I did, the nostalgia will get to you pretty quickly, and this Super Bowl commercial will likely be your biggest inspiration of 2016. It will have you feeling like “you can do that” too, whether “that” is running a marathon, getting that promotion, or even becoming a Pokémon master. Just watch it, and you’ll understand what I’m talking about. It’s been 20 years and the momentum surrounding this franchise hasn’t slowed down one bit. Let’s make the next 20 filled with just as much imagination, determination, and Magik(arp).

10 Cloverfield Lane Trailer (2016) - Paramount Pictures
6,567,404 views

To be honest, I hadn’t heard about this movie before I watched the trailer. I half assumed this was the sequel to director J.J. Abrams’ Cloverfield, and I don’t think I was alone on that assumption given the number of views the trailer has. Abrams referred to 10 Cloverfield Lane as a “blood relative” of Cloverfield, which likely means that it isn’t a direct sequel, but probably takes place in the same universe. The trailer looks tension-filled and dark, so I’m sure it will be popular with the right audience!

Obi-Wan Remembers the Truth
3,885,400 views

Lo and behold, we have another Star Wars video in the top 10! I’m assuming the popularity of Star Wars videos on YouTube will calm down after the Force Awakens hype tapers off a bit, but who knows. This video combines flashbacks from Episode 3 with the part in Episode 4 where Luke asks Obi-Wan how his father died to make the scene much more emotional. I know that Episodes 1, 2, and 3 don’t have the best reputation in the world (a bit of an understatement), but this clip makes them come together with A New Hope really nicely. Check out our blog about all of the different orders in which you can watch the Star Wars movies here!

Wow, what a marathon that was. I hope you feel enriched, and educated on the important themes and issues facing our society today. Like the life-changing effects of mixing bleach with carbonated beverages, or the nail-biting question of whether Zac Efron will finally rid the neighbourhood of pesky sororities once and for all.

Tune in at the end of February for the next edition of the Most Viewed YouTube Videos of the Month!
